Driscoll’s work involves compositions for unique architectural spaces, ultrasonic instruments and sound installations. Van Nort’s work explores the sculptuing and radical transformation of sonic environments using custom-built electro-acoustic systems and digital processes. These instruments respond to small amounts of physical movement and translate the ultrasonic signals into the audible range. Each instrument has a unique character and voice due to their design. These objects have sound vibrated into them, and the resulting sound transformation is amplified into the performance space. This work was originally commissioned by the Merce Cunningham Dance Co. for Merce’s dance work titled “Rainforest”.
