David Tudor exhibition

BANDONEON ! (a combine) was the second work that David Tudor created as a composer.  Presented as part of the historic “9 Evenings”performances in 1966 this work was ground-breaking in its use of elements that would later appear in other Tudor compositions and collaborations:

  1. Remote controlled carts carrying resonant objects with sound driven into them (resonant speakers)

  2. Moving sound into a multiple loudspeaker system (12 Channels)

  3. Elaborate sound modification and distribution electronics (Vochrome & Proportional Control, DT electronics)

  4. The use of an acoustic space as an oscillator (acoustical feedback)

  5. Display of visual patterns responding to the music (Lowell Cross TV oscilloscope)

  6. Sound amplification of Bandoneon (phono cartridges)

  7. Collaboration with Fred Waldhauer, Lowell Cross, Bob Kieronski, Larry Heilos, Witt Wittenberg

  8. Sound sources used in parallel as triggering devices for lighting control
