David Tudor exhibition

David Tudor had a long-standing practice of composing music for dance with a total of 13 compositions commissioned for dance.  Twelve of these works were for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company with whom Tudor toured with as a performer starting with the formation of the MCDC in 1953.

Tudor was a musician with the company and performed numerous works of other composers for repertory works and for events.  He also served as the Music Director for the company from 1992 until 1995.

He also worked with the Viola Farber Dance Company and created Dinosaur Parts for that company in 1974, which was part of a video “Brazos River” with Viola Farber and company, Robert Rauschenberg, Alvin Lucier and Tudor.

Discussions are taking place with the Merce Cunningham Trust concerning live performances of the dances which use Tudor’s music as possible inclusion in the performances associated with the exhibition.
