Tudor was known as a virtuoso on piano.  His realizations of various composers work was in high demand due to his relentless dedication to bringing piano works to performance by composers as varied as John Cage, Morton Feldman, Bo Nilsson, Earle Brown, Christian Wolff, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez, Stefan Wolpe and others.  He also was a performer on Bandoneon and organ as well

He developed a ground-breaking technique using prepared piano and amplified piano as well, and is famous for his realization of John Cage’s 4’ 33”.

He was dedicated to a rigorous process of interpretation of various composers scores, particularly those of an indeterminate nature.  In this process he would study the composer’s score make pages upon pages of working notes and mathematical calculations to fully explore and exploit the composer’s work. He then made his own performance score.

This led to him often making his own performance scores based on his interpretations for example:

  1. John Cage - Cartridge Music

  2. John Cage - Solo for Piano

  1. Christian Wolff - for Piano 1

  2. Earle Brown - Four Systems

These interpretations will be presented in a visual fashion with the original composer’s score, Tudor notes and calculations, Tudor’s performance scores, and recordings of the works.

A number of these realizations are in the Tudor archives at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles.
