toneburst - maps and fragments - (1994 - 1996 )
collaboration Sophia Ogielska
TONEBURST - MAPS AND FRAGMENTS was a collaborative installation work with the artist Sophia Ogielska which used visual elements derived from David Tudor’s scores. The work was first exhibited at the Eza and Cecile Zilka Gallery at Wesleyan University in 1996.
The visual elements consist of a large 'score map' (96''x96'') and three 30''x 89'' 'maps', installed together with multiple clusters of ideograms (6) 16''x96'' or (5) 14"x96") which are arranged in space in relation to them, about twenty smaller multilayer translucent panels, whose dimensions range from 17.5''x13.5'' to 48''x32'', and Tudor's original drawings from 1972-1975 with electronic designs for "Toneburst" and "Untitled". These dynamic maps can be read as scores that can be entered at any point and traversed in any direction.
The sound materials are derived from three recordings of Tudor’s TONEBURST realized by John D.S. Adams.
