DESCRIPTION:
A rotating sound sculpture suspended above the dance space, creates dynamic movement patterns which are sympathetic to the motion of the dancers. The dance is a highly physical performance work for solo and ensemble which references to the peripheral circular edge of the stage space and the choreography is built in a circular structure requiring extreme stamina based on the running base.
The rotating loudspeaker disperses sound into the space and takes advantage of the resonant and reflective characteristics of the performance space. Sound images created by the interaction of the space and the rotating loudspeaker, combine with the music from four peripheral speakers making an acoustical phenomena which could be described as a sonic architecture.
Stall. is choreographed and composed for performance on a proscenium stage or in an open architectural space where the audience is located between the rotating loudspeaker and the peripheral sound field.
Development of the rotating loudspeaker was supported, in part, by the National Endowment for the Arts.
