The resulting sound can be heard on the user device.  On the backend web server, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Open_Sound_Control\">Open Sound Control<\/a> (OSC) messages are sent so that a visitor to a gallery can use their smart phone to interact with sound sculptures as part of an electro acoustic sound art installation. This is implement primarily in <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.mozilla.org\/en-US\/docs\/Web\/JavaScript\">Javascript<\/a> JS and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/HTML\">HTML<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary>Click for defintion of <strong>convolution reverb<\/strong> and &#8220;i<strong>mpulse<\/strong>&#8221; (IR)<\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An <strong>Impulse Response (IR)<\/strong> is\u00a0<mark>a WAV file that captures the sonic &#8220;snapshot&#8221; of a speaker cabinet, microphone, or acoustic space<\/mark>. Play and Stop emit OSC messages here send to a simple proof-of-concept <a href=\"https:\/\/cycling74.com\/products\/max\">Max<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/msp.ucsd.edu\/Pd_documentation\/resources\/chapter1.htm#s1.1\">PD<\/a> patch to demonstrate a visitors smart phone interacting with an audio multi-media site-specific sound sculpture installation in a gallery or other &#8220;found&#8221; spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a test bed to explore a bring-your-own-device to a installation and be able to send signals to an audio back end and to give the user audio of a convolution on their smartphone, iPad or most any other device with a browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Key software dependencies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nodejs.org\/en\">node.js<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/developer.mozilla.org\/en-US\/docs\/Web\/API\/Web_Audio_API#:~:text=The%20Web%20Audio%20API%20provides%20a%20powerful,choose%20audio%20sources%2C%20add%20effects%20to%20audio.\">Web Audio<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npmjs.com\/package\/node-osc\">node-osc<\/a> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>related node package such as <a href=\"https:\/\/expressjs.com\/\">express.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tested from browser on iPhone, iPad, Android, Desktop, Safari, Chrome. Quick test with 4 concurrent devices; wired, wifi and cellular. Currently, there is no load progress indicator.  This might be added in future verions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Future_Use\"><\/span>Future Use<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Future use includes possibilities such as access smartphone sensors (Inertial Motion Unit &#8211; IMU) or microphone that can be used in various ways. These developments are likely to be dependent upon an SSL &#8211; HTTPS connection and related <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Certificate_authority#:~:text=One%20particularly%20common%20use%20for%20certificate%20authorities,browsing%20protocol%20for%20the%20World%20Wide%20Web.\">security certificate.<\/a> A <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Self-signed_certificate\">self-signed certificate<\/a> is adequate for proto-typing and full formal certificate that involves some minimal cost would be needed for a robust public usage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similar example of the node.js server.js and related files can be hosted on a Raspberry Pi as a low cost solution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other OSC listeners such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ableton.com\/en\/live\/what-is-live\/\">Ableton<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reaper.fm\/\">Reaper<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/msp.ucsd.edu\/Pd_documentation\/resources\/chapter1.htm#s1.1\">PD<\/a> can be used instead of basic Max. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.python.org\/about\/\">Python<\/a> listener running on a PiZero could control <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/DMX512\">DMX<\/a> devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Related thread is running this and related apps on a public available server.  Lowest cost solution is self-hosting made easy with access to the port forwarding controls on my local router.
